Durfee Students Raising Awareness for a Cause

Two B.M.C. Durfee High School seniors are using their DECA Community Awareness Project to make a real-world impact.

Leticia Siminoni Goncalves da Silva and Yaniel Ocasio-Ramos, both enrolled in Early College and DECA, selected the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) as the focus of their DECA project. As part of the assignment, students research a charitable organization and work to raise awareness within the community.

Caught Being Awesome Jan 2026

Last week, more than 30 Durfee students were surprised as they received the Caught Being Awesome Award.

The Term 2 students were nominated by teachers, office staff, counselors, and even classmates for doing the right thing — showing kindness, character, responsibility, perseverance, strong academic effort, and for the hard work it takes to turn things around.

Bringing Government to Life

Massachusetts State Senator Michael Rodrigues, joined by his Legislative Aide Kyle Neves, visited B.M.C. Durfee High School to meet with students in AP Government and Criminal Justice classes.

Students led a dynamic Q&A, asking thoughtful questions and connecting classroom learning to real-world government, law, and local politics. Senator Rodrigues shared insight into how decisions are made at the State House, while Kyle pulled back the curtain on what public service looks like behind the scenes.

Credit for Life - A Financial Literacy Fair

Last week, Durfee High School 11th graders in the Early College Program had the opportunity to take part in the Credit for Life Fair, hosted by BayCoast Bank and a group of volunteers.

Students selected a career, received a simulated monthly salary, and navigated real-world budgeting decisions using imaginary cash, credit, and savings while visiting interactive booths staffed by volunteers. The experience gave students hands-on exposure to financial literacy and the challenge of living within a budget in a fun, engaging way.
